Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status with his folk-based pop songs many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired many to visit Colorado. I can't think of any other performer who embodies Colorado as well as John Denver said G. Brown curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. He is the face of Colorado for many people across the globe. In my journeys, you meet someone from the other end of the planet, one from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first word that comes they say is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief career performing in small folk-based bands included Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver could hear an early version and knew the song would be one of the Top 10 hits. The song was performed at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver made a recording a few days later.
